We spent Easter in Hill End, a tiny town an hour of winding road outside Bathurst in the Central West of NSW. Our cousins spend every Easter here camping, singing, laughing, drinking, eating chocolate. This year we finally joined them but between cheese and beers we set up our first ever pop-up shop on the main street of Hill End. The shop front dates back to the days of the gold rush when our own ancestors first made the scramble up into these hills. Hill End has held a special place in our family story ever since; many generations have lived here and many people have returned to reconnect. The objects and artwork we made for Gold Country were a response to this place: the heroic bush myths and harsh realities of a land and landscape changed forever.
